We climbed a mountain!

Alright...the car climbed the mountain, but this was still a huge step for me. When I was six years old, my dad took me hiking for the first time. I climbed Bear Mountain in NY. He gave me my first Swiss Army Knife to open a can of tuna for lunch. I can still remember the rocks and some trail markers 33 years later from that first hike. I want that experience for both my kids. When they are six, we are going to climb Bear Mountain. They are going to receive their first Swiss Army Knives. We might not have tuna, but they will have to use it to open something.

The wrench was when I told the boy this, he was very nervous about climbing mountain. I think he didn't like the idea of being so high. So, as a precursor to the hike (that will happen next year), we drove up the mountain. I expected both kids to get out, look around for a second, and want to go home.

The majesty of mountain took them. They actually looked out at the scene for about five actual minutes...which in toddler time is like a week.

These are my favorite things...in one picture.

It was a great first trip up a mountain.
